Wild Card Shootout
Wild Card Shootout
This special CPL event takes place on Saturday, May 4th.
The Wild Card Shootout is a one-night Texas Hold'em tournament. The term "shootout" refers to a very specific poker format in regards to the way tables are consolidated as players are knocked out. All the details are explained below, but though this format may be new to you, we assure you all that's necessary to win is your regular Hold'em skills!
In a shootout, tables are not rebalanced when players are knocked out. Each table in the tournament plays until there is only one player left. Then each of the winning players from each table create a final table and play for first place. For example, if the Wild Card Shootout registered 36 players, the event would start with four tables (each holding 9 players). All four tables would play until one player has knocked out all the others at his/her table. Once all the tables had a sole victor, those remaining 4 players would face-off on a final table until there is a winner.
To add a bit of flair to the tournament, two WILD CARDS will be present in the deck. These wild cards are the 2 of HEARTS and the 2 of DIAMONDS (both of the red dueces). Anytime either of these two cards are present as a player's hole cards or on the table community cards, players may play them as any value/suit they wish!
Registration for The Shootout is $20/player & a sealed deck of poker cards. That gets you $4500 worth of chips. Play will follow the blind schedule published below. If one table "finishes" (meaning one player has knocked out everyone at his/her table), the surviving player that eliminated everyone must sit out and wait for the other active tables to finish so a final table can be created. Play continues on the small, final table until there is a single champion.
Payouts will be based on the number of players registered. You do not have to make the final table in order to earn cash. As in a regular tournament, placing will be decided by the order in which people lose all their chips. The following criteria will be followed:
7-10 Players
1st Place receives 60%
2nd Place receives 30%
3rd Place receives 10%

**If an uneven number of people sign up, the starting tables of The Shootout will not hold the same number of people. Therefore, some players have the potential to enter the final table with more chips than others. However, this is perfectly fair because a player that survived a heavier table had to knock out more players than a player coming from a lighter table. For example, if 29 players registered, three tables would be necessary for the start of the event. Those three tables would seat players in a number scheme of 10-10-9. The final table would consist of 3 players (one from each of the starting tables), but the player who comes from the table of 9 will have a tad less chips than the two players that came from the tables of 10. Again, this occurance is totally acceptable because the player coming from the table of 9 technically had less work to do in order to make the final table.
MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU!!
SOME SPECIFICS:
Only No-limit Texas Hold'em will be played. Standard rules for winning hands, betting order, etc. will be followed. CPL regulations will be in effect. All money collected from entries is paid out as winnings. No cut is taken for any reason. This tournament is Texas-legal.
NUMBER OF TABLES: The amount of players registered in The Shootout will determine the number of tables used. One table is required for every ten people registered. Directors reserve the right to start the event with unfilled tables (meaning the tables purposely start with less than ten players) in order to ensure more players at the final table. Tables will not consolidate during the tournament until each of the starting tables only has one player remaining.
STARTING STACKS: The five colored chips that will be used are white, red, blue, green, and black. Each color is worth a denomination that only has value during a tournament. At the start of The Shootout, every player will begin with $4500 worth of chips (1 black, 4 greens, 10 blues, 6 reds, and 8 whites). As the blinds raise higher, players will be "chipped up" to remove lower denomination colors. Chips are always rounded up. Here are the values of the colors:
White = $25
Red = $50
Red = $50
Blue = $100
Green = $500
Black = $1000
FORMAT AND BLINDS: Player seats will be chosen at random. The starting position of the dealer button will begin at Position 3 at each table. Blinds will start at 25/50 and raise every twenty minutes for the first four levels. Once the blinds reach the 300/600 level, they will be lowered to fifteen minutes. Here is the blind schedule:

When the final table is created, player's seats will be chosen at random. The starting position of the dealer button will also be chosen at random. Despite what blind level the tournament reached during regular play, the final table will reset to the 2000/4000 level.
No rakes/cuts are ever taken on the league's behalf. Players are never charged an additional fee outside of the normal buy-in. Tournaments are privately held. All players begin events with equal odds of winning. Players are prohibited from making "deals" during a tournament. The tournament must be played until a single player has been deemed the winner. Players must follow all etiquette, including never showing another player their hand or performing any other actions viewed as cheating. No more than forty players will be registered for The Wild Card Shootout. No string betting. Cards speak for themselves. Substitutes are not permitted at any time. Only CPL chips will be used during the tournament. Rebuys, add-ons, bounties, special points, and/or antes are not a part of the event. All money submitted to The Shootout is non-refundable. Decks submitted to The Shootout become property of CPL. Points are not a part of the tournament (CPL point totals are not affected whatsoever). Directors reserve the right to alter the colors and denominations of chips used during the event. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card or a player’s hold card prior to the flop, a misdeal will be declared. If the dealer mistakenly reveals a burn card after the flop, all players shall be allowed to see the revealed card and the hand will continue. Payouts occur as soon as the tournament ends. A deck will always contain exactly two wild cards (both red 2s). If a player has a wild card available to them via their hole cards or the community cards, that wild card must always be used as whatever value will give the player the best possible hand. Wild cards may have any value (2 through Ace) and play as any suit. There is no such thing as "5 of a kind." There is such a thing as "quad aces with an ace kicker." If a starting table is reduced to a single remaining player, that player must sit out until all other starting tables have "selected" their representative for the final table. Blinds raise every twenty minutes for the first four levels of the tournament. Blinds are reduced to fifteen minutes for the remainder of the tournament beginning with the 300/600 level. The starting blinds for the final table will be 2000/4000 no matter what. If a player deliberately or excessively violates CPL policy, that player may be expelled from the tournament without refund.
All rule disputes will be resolved solely by a CPL Director (Robbie Cummings or Russell Pullen).
